ForSUD – Multi-disciplinary approach and south-south cooperation for the removal of the root causes of irregular migration and trafficking in humans, in particular women and unaccompanied minors, through work and the promotion of rights

AID – 011.454

25 July 2018 – 24 November 2021

The project

The ForSUD project was born to contribute to a better management of migration flows from Ivory Coast and Nigeria. In particular, ForSUD targets young Ivorians aged 17-35, 50% of whom are women, unemployed or underemployed, at risk of irregular migration, Ivorian children between 5 and 18 years of age with little or no financial support from family and young Nigerian women between 17 and 28 years of age.

Ivorian and Nigerian children and young people are precious resources: the project aims to help them grow with their country. This is why ForSUD aims to improve their socio-economic conditions through the provision of appropriate vocational training, support for job placement and the creation of micro and small enterprises.

Moreover, as Ivory Coast and Nigeria continue to be countries affected by serious violations of fundamental rights, ForSUD intends to enhance their protection and strengthen the resilience of those most exposed to irregular migration through measures aimed at strengthening self-empowerment and awareness, as well as through support given to minors with little or no financial support from family, through care, family reintegration and reception.

SDGs - Sustainable Development Goals

ForSUD is part of the path towards sustainability outlined in the 2030 Agenda, in line with the idea of a development that respects the human person and the habitat where he lives.

ForSUD contributes to realize the following Sustainable Development Goals:

  • OB. 5: Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls
  • OB. 8: To encourage lasting economic growth, inclusive and sustainable, full employment and productive and decent work for all
  • OB. 10: Reduce inequality between countries and those present within them
